The data from around 150 national companies all over the world on group consolidation and reporting that is relevant for the balance sheet will be transferred here to a new platform, SAP Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM).

In a second project phase the operative accounting systems of the national companies will be converted to parallel accounting (local GAAP und IFRS), so that they will be enabled to book in accordance with IFRS as well as in accordance with the locally valid GAAP. In addition, other data relevant to controlling is to be reported to SAP SEM for the purposes of harmonization for the monthly management reports. The introduction of the SAP SEM planning module BPS is also planned.

Project scope

In project phase I the new requirements resulting from Brenntag's IFRS strategy will be defined and their effect on reporting and the coordination of the IFRS figures with US GAAP will be determined. This will result in new processes at Group level for quarterly reports and consolidation.
The content requirements and processes will be implemented in the SAP SEM system in the modules BCS (Business Consolidation System) and BW (Business Warehouse). In addition an IT concept will be prepared and implemented that, among others, will contain the interface for the national companies, the system architecture, the hardware configuration and the authorization concept.

Scheduling

The new content-conceptual circumstances for the IFRS/US GAAP conversions will be prepared from September and the technical SAP SEM implementation and IT basis concepts drawn up. Customizing and pilot runs will take place after acceptance and release of these concepts. Training for IFRS and SAP SEM is planned parallel to this. Finally, the consolidated financial statements for the acquisition date 27.02.04, 6/2004 und 12/2004 will be converted to IFRS by the reporting units and followed up in SAP SEM. The go-live will take place from July 2005. The stabilization and support phase is planned for 2005, after the productivity setting. The decision in the exact dates for phase II will be made in 2005.

Our role

In this project sds business services GmbH is participating with the project management and the customizing of the SEM BCS for the consolidation and in the BW for reporting. Thanks to the Stinnes HERO project we have a wide range of expertise here. In addition we are also responsible for the SAP Basis part project and operate the systems in our computer centre.
