Along with the statutory retirement pension, company and employee-financed retirement pensions are becoming increasingly important for safeguarding employees' usual standard of living after they retire. Like many other companies now, Stinnes AG also provides appropriate company pension modules or modules financed by employees.
PENS is the system through which the different pension models are managed and handled, with the respective history of rights, payments and reserves.
To enable the efficient support of the complete handling process PENS has a technical interface to the personnel accounting systems and to the insurance specialists included for the evaluation of the reserves. The following illustration shows the embedding of PENS in the system and user interfaces.
PENS system landscape (pdf - 172 KB)
PENS is supplied regularly by the personnel accounting systems (e.g. PAISY) with the key data for those entitled to pensions and with the relevant information for the management of the pension modules. This information includes, for example, length of service, the applicable pensions regulations and salary and pensions payments. Alternatively, direct acquisition and management of data is possible in PENS as well.
The data is forwarded to the insurance specialists responsible for evaluating the reserves at the dates for this evaluation. After the evaluation, the data flows back into the system, so that over the years a complete picture of all rights and benefits develops for every person entitled to a pension. After the return flow of the data the payments records for all those entitled to a pension can be generated from PENS. Because of the great sensitivity of the managed data PENS has, of course, the appropriate data and access protection mechanisms.
From its technical platform PENS has a client/server architecture with Oracle as the database system and a server application with a Web interface developed with Java. A standard browser and Internet access are all that is required to use the system functions.
At present, PENS is used as a pensions management system by Stinnes AG, Schenker, Brenntag and Interfer. PENS is currently being used to manage the pensions rights of about 20,000 persons entitled to a pension. It was developed as a modular, client-capable system and can therefore be used in all companies with comparable requirements.
